4 Loves & 1 Hate at WWDC


Apple. The name has become synonymous with good design. But it’s also had a few missteps in recent years. Skeuomorphism is taking the place of clean interfaces. IN-EI BY ISSEY MIYAKE FOR ARTEMIDE

IN EI by Issey Miyake for Artemide


IN-EI is a new collection of table, floor, and hanging lamps by fashion designer Issey Miyake for the Italian lighting manufacturer Artemide. Born from the 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE project in which clothing can be folded flat but also become a three-dimensional form, Miyake and his research team Reality Lab. naturally transitioned into lighting. The fixture’s material is made from recycled PET plastic bottles and diffuses light beautifully. “IN-EI” is Japanese for shadow, and with the pleating of the material each lamp becomes a striking sculpture when lit.

Artist Creates Portraits Of Pop Culture Icons Using Barcodes


Florida-based artist Scott Blake has created various portraits of celebrities and pop culture icons using only the barcodes of items specific to the person to make up their individual portraits.

Top 14 announced in the TFG competition

The CPUT Graphic Design students recently entered the TFG Gift Card Competition to redesign a set of 4 gift cards for The Foschini Group shoppers. The top 14 designs were announced today and 8 of them are CPUT Graphic Design students. The top 5 designs will be announced in August.


The 8 CPUT GD students are: Andisiwe Juta, Bianca Nakan, Colin Thomas, Kayla Schoonraad, Kobie Niewoudt, Matthew Crisp, Romeo Mabuda and Stacey Knipe. The 
top 5 will be announced next month - Best of Luck!
